Three months ago today, I announced my candidacy for the 34th Congressional District seat. We organized a small and talented team with heart and drive. We worked hard and covered much in a short-period of time.
I am incredibly grateful that I was able to participate in this process. It was because of YOUR support, YOUR friendship, and YOUR inspiration that I walk away from this experience feeling worlds of gratitude and feeling like a winner.
Thank you to the voters of this district who attended the forums to learn more about the candidates, those who opened their doors, talked to us by phone, shared their stories, and invited me into your homes. Each time, it was a boost of energy and motivation because I wanted and still want to work hard to make things better . . . because We Deserve Better.
Thank you for telling your neighbors about me, for spending your time to get the word out, and for believing in this campaign. Thank you to my confidants for the late-night calls and email exchanges that helped keep this campaign focused and never compromise. Thank you all for believing in our vision.
To those of you who entrusted me with your financial support, I am proud of our numbers. We stretched every dollar and were able to deliver our results with a budget of less than 10 percent of what others raised.
Which brings me to my winning team and volunteers - those who worked on communications, social media, designs, data and voter files, those that led and staffed events, helped with mailings, those that knocked on doors, made thousands (yes, thousands!) of calls, picked up lunch for starving volunteers, and to my consultants and managers - thank you.
To my "home team," my mom, aunt Rosa-Elena, my in-laws, my daughters' aunts and uncles - I could not have done any of this without you.
I was humbled by the support I received from the start when I announced my run back in January. I am ever-more humbled now because of the journey we shared together.
To my biggest supporter, best-friend and life-partner. Gilbert, you made me feel like a winner every day and always will with you by my side.
Thank you for this opportunity. Whatever my next steps are, I am glad I have this community, this home to fall back on. God Bless.
